Clinical manual therapy for injury, chronic pain, and post-surgical rehabilitation — condition-specific and assessment-based, adapted to where you are in healing.
Orthopedic massage is assessment-based manual therapy aimed at a specific structural problem — an injury, a chronic pain pattern, a post-surgical restriction — rather than a general relaxation session. Before any hands-on work begins, I want to understand your history, how the issue developed, what's been tried already, and what your body is doing to compensate around it.
From there, the work is targeted: soft-tissue techniques, myofascial release, and joint-focused mobility work aimed at the specific restriction, always adapted to your comfort and where you are in healing. With more than 20 years of clinical practice, this is often where recovery bridges from acute care into lasting function.
Deeper structural work — addressing scar tissue, restricted range of motion, or compensation patterns — is typically appropriate starting around 6 to 8 weeks post-op for most procedures, and longer for major orthopedic surgeries; the tissue needs time to heal before it can be safely and effectively worked. Sessions are active and specific: we move incrementally through the areas of restriction, tracking your response throughout, and you're always in control of pressure and intensity.
Orthopedic massage is condition-specific and assessment-based — built around a particular injury or restriction rather than general relaxation. Every session starts with understanding what's actually going on structurally before any hands-on work begins.
There can be some productive discomfort as restrictions are addressed, but you're always in control of pressure and intensity. It should never feel aggressive.
Deeper structural work is typically appropriate around 6 to 8 weeks post-op for most procedures, longer for major orthopedic surgeries. Earlier in recovery, gentle lymphatic work is usually more appropriate — see Recovery Care.
It depends on the issue. Some chronic patterns respond within a handful of sessions; more complex post-surgical rehabilitation is usually a longer arc. We'll map out a realistic plan at your first visit.
